Martina Gritti – Executive Account Manager @ Megaphone Marketing

1. Before we dive into your role at Megaphone Marketing, what has your career journey looked like so far?

Throughout uni I did a bunch of internships to figure out where I wanted to work, including not for profits. I studied PR at uni and went straight into working the day after graduation.

In this role I was focused on PR for lifestyle and travel clients – even travelled to Lake Como for a client!

After years of working PR and different agencies I decided to change industry and go into marketing (digital marketing) as well as expanding on my leadership skills.

2. Transitioning into work, what the heck does a Lead Digital Strategist @ Megaphone Marketing do?

What is Megaphone Marketing?

Megaphone is Australia’s #1 social media agency (we won an award, not self proclaimed).

We offer a range of services such as; Facebook, Instagram and Google advertising, TikTok advertising, content creation, influencer marketing, email marketing etc.

What does your role entail?

I’m an Executive Account Manager which means I oversee a team of Marketing Strategists (account managers, seniors, juniors etc).

I also have my own clients that I work on. But basically I’m responsible for developing people’s careers, and their clients’ businesses.

3. What are some companies you’ve worked with in your currently role and how have you helped them?

Company 1: Furrytail Australia

They started this brand back in 2019 and wanted to become Australia’s #1 choice for cat accessories/products and I was driving campaigns to make this happen, which we did in 7 months.

Company 2: Klipsta
This business was started by a mum in Sydney about 2 years ago and she sells hat clips so you don’t lose your hat or don’t have to carry it when you’re travelling. We’re now being featured on major media outlets (The Guardian, Broadsheet etc) and we’re expanding worldwide with a 5 year plan of $30m in revenue.

What was your role?

For both, my role is to grow the brand in advertising by pushing ads to new people, new customers and scaling the business to whichever target the client has.

4. What do the entry level pathways into a digital marketing agency look like?

What are the entry level roles at Megaphone Marketing?

We offer a student program, where we train people from assistants to juniors and then they work their way up to managers, seniors etc

What about the rest of the industry?

You have to start somewhere, my recommendation is to do internships throughout your uni degree if you don’t know where you want to work.

The marketing industry is very saturated, there are so many agencies out there offering similar services and it’s important for the companies to be able to differentiate themselves from the competition by focusing on the service they deliver to clients and culture to their employees.

5. What’s one thing you recommend an aspiring marketer do right now?

Do your research, do loads of internships and interviews to see where you want to work.

Reach out to individuals that are working in the industry and try to understand what their day to day looks like, which clients they look after and what they enjoy the most/the least from their jobs.

It’s a competitive industry, so you need to stand out. Creativity and attitude will go a long way to get you your dream job, skills can be developed with time.
